Richard Burde

Richard Burde, oil on canvas, 1978. Signed lower left, "Burde" and on reverse "78, Burde". Measures 21 1/2" wide by 17 3/4" high. Frame measures 27 1/4" wide by 24" high. 

"Born October 23, 1912 in Frankfurt on the Oder, to Herman and Bertha Rau Burde. Richard studied at the Academy of Fine Arts for four years in Dresden." Richard Otto Burde came to Utah from Germany in the 50's after joining the LDS Church. He exhibited many paintings over the years, reportedly winning first place at the State Fair and at an exhibition at the State Capitol. Much of his work was focused on religious themes, but he was prolific in painting landscapes as well. He died in 1998.
