Polly McDonell - 1911-2000
Polly McDonell studied and painted along side the best expressionist painters of her generation including Hans Hoffmann, Andre Lhote, and Arpad Szenes. Winning the top award for the best yearbook art and design for Phoenix Union High School as a senior 1929, thanks to the art contributed by herself and Arnold Friberg, she left for Los Angeles to study at the Chouinard School of Art. and then spent a year at UC Berkeley as a fine arts student. She then went to New York City and studied under Hans Hoffmann. She married John McDonell and went Paris and studied under Andre Lhote.
